Akiva Aryeh Weiss

"And like the city of New York represents America's main entrance, so must we develop our city, to make it the Israeli New York…" so wrote Akiva Aryeh Weiss, the man who helped found and establish the city of Tel Aviv, back in 1906. Weiss was a creative and enterprising Zionist who made his mark in many areas: in his revolutionary initiative to build a modern, independent Hebrew city, in his legendary conch shell lottery, and in designing and construction of some of Tel Aviv's most beautiful houses (some have been declared heritage sites). This exhibit is dedicated to Weiss and his family, the story of the birth of Tel Aviv, and to his additional pioneering enterprises and achievements.
